EVERYONE HAS A STARTING POINT.
After eating healthily and being active my entire life, at 39 years old in late December I landed in the ER with a virus and autoimmune condition attacking my liver. One of the attending physicians told me I would not walk out alive. However, I did walk out, knowing that I had a lot of hard work ahead of me to rebuild my body. With a lack of clear medical guidance, I did research and used basic nutritional principles I’d learned through sports and almost 20 years in the fitness industry. After 2 months my bloodwork was back to normal, so I continued to do what I was doing and began to document it. I started this blog to share what helped me survive and rebuild my body, because if I can do it, you can too!
The power of food as medicine is amazing, whether you are trying to prevent/beat chronic illness or lose weight.
With a solid nutrition plan under my belt, I began adding some workouts I love thus want to do consistently. I have injured essentially every part of my body from swimming and running, so if you are recovering from an injury, I know the frustration! You can get back to where you were and go even further as long as you are consistent and use proper form. Personally, I beat a man 15 years my junior in a 7 minute plank competition 7 months after I got out of the hospital. Your body is capable of more than you think it is, and I hope to guide and cheer you on along the way!
MY FAVORITE WORKOUTS ARE BARRE, PILATES, BOXING, AND INDOOR CYCLING.
Do you have problems sticking to a fitness routine? I want to share with you the routines I love and reframe your mindset about working out. Hopefully you will enjoy at least one of these as much as I do.
MY FAITH IS THE ONLY THING THAT GOT ME THROUGH THIS.
I am hoping to share my story as encouragement to others and what helps me in my daily walk with Christ!
HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO TRAVEL ALONE BUT ARE AFRAID TO DO SO?
Prior to my health crisis, I had a different type of life-changing event. When I was 35, I took a trip to Italy with my brother. As an art history minor in college and utter Michelangelo devotee, the art (and the food of course!) was obviously incredible. However, more importantly, my nonna was born there, and we had the opportunity to visit the church where she was bapitized…on the side of an Alp. This reignited my wanderlust, and I quit my job to travel…alone. I saw 6 continents and had an experience that cannot be replicated. (FYI, the places that make my heart happiest are central Asia and Africa). I hope to give you some inspiration, tips, and tools to get outside your comfort zone one step at a time to go see the things on your bucket list. Maybe even create a new bucket list!
