How to Eat Healthily During a Really Busy Week

How to Stay Healthy with a Crazy Schedule: Part One.

In this first in a series of how to stay healthy when you are stretched for time, I am going to cover an easy way to eat well.

We all face this situation regardless of all our planning.  Perhaps we are out of town for a wedding, we are in the middle of crunch time at work, there is a sick kid…whatever it may be, your week turns into an extra-stretched mess.

You can, however, still be healthy during this time.

In an ideal world, you will be able to meal prep organic farmers’ market kale every Sunday.  In reality, life happens.  Quite frankly though, it is not all that difficult to stay healthy during that as long as you don’t overcomplicate things.

The first goal in this series:  Feed your body nutritious food.

Let’s assume you have no meal prep or food shopping time and go from there.

When you have no time for anything food-related, you have two options:  takeout/delivery or a meal delivery service.  We all fall back on takeout at times, and even when we try to order the healthy stuff, it is still loaded with sodium and who-knows-what.

This leaves us with a meal delivery service.  Since you are short on time, I am suggesting one that does not involve actual cooking, just reheating.

But since meal delivery services are becoming a somewhat saturated market, it can be hard to find the one perfect for you. I would like to introduce you to my favorite one, RealEats.

Why RealEats? Well first of all, it doesn’t involve any cooking. If you are looking for a service that provides just the ingredients to get you comfortable with cooking (I understand that it can be overwhelming!), this probably isn’t the one for you. However, if you are looking for pure convenience of pre-made meals to provide your nutrients without a lot of added junk, you should take a look at their website!

There are three big reasons that distingush RealEats from other services:

1.       Customized diet options. Meaning you mix and match protein and sides for each meal, not just choose a Keto or Mediterranean plan.

You can mix and match your proteins and sides, so every meal you eat is totally customized to your taste! And while all meal delivery services have a variety of menu options, I love the flexibility here where your meal is customized down to each individual element on your plate.

As a side note, I want to point out that they offer lobster mac and cheese - yes, I said that.

2.       Reasonable sodium levels.

Holy crap. Any convenient “healthy” meals tend to be off the charts with salt. Even the “healthiest” plant-based organic entree tends to be heavy-handed with the sodium.

However, this service is different since it involves sealing minimal ingredients at peak freshness.

Much like frozen veggies, this means the food retains its nutrients without a ton of preservatives, which includes salt. This is in contrast to most pre-assembled meals, with sodium and other junky stuff off the charts.  Here you find a variety of food options that keep sodium in check without sacrificing flavor!

3.       Whole foods that arrive in sealed bags…from a farm.

I will reiterate the last point - this is whole food sealed in a sort of sous vide fashion (Top Chef, anyone?), so you are getting minimal ingredients that are high quality. In other words, you won’t be reading an ingredient list with 50 items, most of which you couldn’t pronounce even if you went back to sophomore year chemistry lab.

This means you are eating real food rather than processed nonsense.  If you are going to eat processed nonsense, it should be a Taco Bell drive-through treat rather than an actual meal, no?

Also, eating real, whole foods fights inflammation in your body, which leads to a host of benefits!

So if you are looking to eat as well as possible during a crazy busy week, how would RealEats work for you? When you know you have a busy week coming up, turn “on” your subscription by Thursday night, and you’ll be sailing through the next week with all the delicious and healthy food to fuel you!

Please also note that this involves no cooking, just reheating.  This is a service that ensures you get your nutrients, not convinces you that you are ready for Top Chef (except for that sous vide part, after all).

An added bonus?  If you don’t eat all the food you order, you can freeze it.  That means you can go to lunch or dinner with colleagues or friends because you need to vent or a stress relief.  I love the flexibility this service provides both in terms of food options and the timing of eating them!

If you are looking to prep for a busy week, or if you are looking to try new foods that you have not yet cooked, I highly recommend checking out the options at RealEats!  You can select from a wide variety of real food-based meals, easy on the sodium, based on your dietary needs.

Plus they are delivered to your doorstep, ready to be thrown into the fridge (or freezer as necessary) to be heated as necessary!  Eating well really does not get easier than this!
