How to Kick the Sugar Habit (and Added Pounds) for Good

Added sugars have invaded our diets.

All these empty calories inhibit your weight loss efforts, and the unfortunate truth is eating it makes you crave more of it.  That makes reducing the added sugar in your diet a real challenge. 

Please note that we aren’t talking about sugar from fruit, which is supplied to your body with nutritional benefits like vitamins and fiber.  What you need to be careful about is the junk from cookies and “healthy” snacks and sneaky hidden packaged food sources (ketchup, marinara, bread, SIGH). 

Does anyone remember those SnackWell cookies from the 90’s?  I realize I dated myself there, but I was alive during the low-fat diet trend, which didn’t lead to lasting weight loss for essentially anyone.  Do you know why?  What they used to replace the fat was…extra sugar. 

What we now know is that fat is not our enemy!  The human body NEEDS fat to survive, especially the good stuff that comes from olive oil, avocados, and salmon!  What we don’t need is added sugar. 

Fat is good for your body, your health, and your metabolism, while sugar wreaks havoc.  Sugar clogs your liver, causes inflammation, and causes spikes and drops in your blood sugar that ignite cravings for more sugar and make you hungry again for essentially no reason!

Your body thrives and hums at an optimal level when you eat like this, and as a side effect, you shed excess pounds.  Yes, the weight falls off when you replace sugar and processed carbs with delicious things like guacamole, nut butter, and olives! 

Since the more you eat, the more you crave, eating excess sugar just starts a vicious cycle, but it is one that can be overcomeOnce you recognize you are in it, you can take some steps to stop your reliance on sugar.

The beautiful thing about your body is that when you give it what it NEEDS rather than what it most certainly does not, it doesn’t go haywire with cravings. 

That means if you can decrease your added sugar intake, you will not want sugar as much. 

My body completely changed when I decreased my added sugar/processed carbohydrate intake and added lots of healthy fats.  No more blood sugar surges and crashes, no more need for a 3PM vending machine run.  My life has completely changed for the better, and I’m in better health than I was 10 years ago!  Are you looking for that too?
