I ADORE workout clothes.  I LIVE in them. And I want to share my favorite deals on them with you! Keep reading to find great deals on workout clothes that are comfortable, flattering, cute, and durable!

And after the working from home craze that swept the nation courtesy of covid, I am guessing you are spending more time in them as well.

Personally, I call our working from home attire the “business mullet” – it’s business on top and a party on the bottom (in other words, a blouse/sweater/suit jacket on top and shorts/yoga pants/let’s-be-honest-no-pants on the bottom).

Even though I work in a conservative office environment (or perhaps even more so because of it), I am always in gym clothes outside of work.  This is exacerbated by the fact that I teach fitness classes, but for the past 15 years I have rarely gotten out of my yoga pants.  This includes dinners and events with my friends unless they explicit telling me I need to put on real clothes.  And yes, I also wear them on all first dates.

Because of these things, I like to think of myself as a self-proclaimed expert on all things athleisure.

And because of that, I do not buy into the notion of wearing a name brand on my yoga pants just because that is what you are allegedly supposed to do.

You are literally destroying your clothes every time you work out in them.

My brother gave me a gift card to Lulu for my last birthday (it was such a lovely gesture because he knows how much I love athleisure), but I did not use it.

I do not like Lulu for the following reasons (I express how emotional I am through the exclamation points):

1.      The fabric is uncomfortable!

2.      The fit is weird on me!

3.      I don’t find them aesthetically pleasing!

Instead, I prefer yoga pants (and gym clothes/athleisure/whatever you want to call it) that feel like butter against my skin, are flattering, and do not get destroyed in the wash.

To the last point:  I want pieces that can be thrown into the dryer instead of air drying.  I will air dry my hair (because I am lazy) but not my clothes (again, because I am lazy).  I don’t want gym clothes that are more high maintenance than I am.

For all these reasons, I have found a sweet little niche in Amazon for finding some steals on workout clothes (that, remember, are still cute enough to wear running errands or going for a casual brunch after barre class).

My recommendations fulfilled my very scientific method of testing:

1.      They are comfortable.  Please see the above “butter against my skin” test, which these all pass with flying colors.

2.      They are flattering.  Because duh.

3.      They are durable.  I have had great experiences with these brands where I throw them into the washer and the dryer in the hottest settings with all sorts of varying colors, and they still fit like a glove, don’t fray/pill/fall apart, and the colors don’t run or bleed.

4.      They come in multiple colors.  This one might not be important to you, but when I find a piece of clothing I love, I tend to load up on multiple colors (this explains why I have 23 Polo sweaters).  If you like the cut and fit of something, go with it in every color available.

Here are my favorite workout pieces (that also wear well outside the gym) that you can score on Amazon for a great price!

Yoga pants ($30):

I initially found these in 2014 in TJ Maxx and became obsessed.  They are soft like you wouldn’t believe, and they are magical in the way they shape your bum and hamstrings.  I have since acquired far more pairs than I care to admit.

Remember that one of my requirements is also that these clothes are durable. I still have those original pants that I bought in 2014, and I wear them regularly. So these babies have lasting power.

A great thing about the fit is that they aren’t overly snug - you won’t get that weird muffin top thing that you get with some yoga pants (I am guessing it is because the fabric isn’t stiff and scratchy). Also, they feel really good against your skin, and who doesn’t want that?

I am willing to bet that if you try these, you too will come right back for additional colors! Plus, who doesn’t love pockets?

Flowy Yoga Tank Top ($20):

This shirt comes in a pretty good variety of colors and is really soft with a good cut across your upper back.

It flattering both in terms of showing your hard work in your pretty shoulders and does not get too tight around the tummy or hips. I prefer a flowy top to a tight one, but you run the risk of it flying over you head.

PLEASE NOTICE THAT THIS SHIRT IS PERFECT IN THAT IT IS FLOWY BUT STILL HAS AN ELASTIC AROUND YOUR HIPS TO KEEP YOU FROM GIVING A FREE SHOW!

Capri Yoga Pants (starting at $17):

Similar the first pair, but these are shorter and come in colorful patterns in addition to plain dark pants.

I have a weird thing where if I am wearing running shoes, I prefer cropped yoga pants and save full length ones for pairing with flip flops. I just think it’s more flattering for whatever reason (but you do you, girl).

Another benefit for these is that in addition to the benefits previously mentioned (soft, flattering, not too tight, and very durable), these also come in some cool patterns.

In addition to matching pant length to shoe style, I also love fun patterns because it sometimes just makes a workout more fun (remember that I told you I am a self-proclaimed expert here, haha). Nothing against plain black - and I have plenty of those, of course - but it is a fun twist to mix it up with interesting prints!

Shorts ($15):

I wear shorts 95% of the year even though I live in a cold climate. I love these ones because they are what I consider to be the perfect length - like Goldilocks, I don’t want them too long or too short, and these are just right.

Also, $15 for workout bottoms (particularly ones you can wear outside the gym) is a pretty sweet deal. I love when I find a cheap piece that is available in a million colors! These come in 20 (including some patterns). And ladies, they have pockets.

Despite the price tag, they, like everything on this list, will survive a million washes.

Pullover Sweatshirt (with Thumb Holes! Starting at $30):

This is the PERFECT top layer to wear on a flight (it also is a nice versatile to piece to wear throughout your vacation once you land). At home, it is equally perfect to throw in your gym bag to top your workout clothes to meet friends after the gym.

It is soft, comfortable, flattering, and cute (I love that zip at the neck and the crossover hem at the bottom). You will wear this for years because it survives many trips to your laundry room. My best recommendation is to get this in a few colors. I am guessing this will be your go-to piece for throwing on and running out the door.
